Ashley Brossart is a young artist whose work is inspired by our city’s changing landscape.
Ashley is a Louisville native (Sacred Heart, if you must know) who has recently returned to her home after a stint in San Francisco. While in California, she was paying attention to new growth and development in Louisville and was excited to return to see it first-hand.
Ashley became fascinated with watching the city grow and evolve while driving a delivery truck for Blue Dog Bread. Driving through the same developing parts of town on regular basis, she wanted to capture their movement and growth.
Her paintings are multi-layered abstractions of our familiar streetscapes. Other pieces are rooted in streetmaps, where the city’s grids and expressways become a visual web. Her personal connection to and physical presence in Louisville is felt in these pieces.
In exploring the city for inspiration, Ashley documents the city’s features of streets and buildings and has recently begun to collage these photos together digitally to mimic the abstractions of her paintings.
Ashley shows work regularly at Greenhaus on Preston and has an upcoming show in May at Gallery M at Mellwood Art Center. It will be up for both May and June.
