I’m a big fan of your illustration style and thought you could make some great short comics for The Paper. You’ve had a strip in the last couple issues and so far, so good. Have you done this style of comic before?
I’ve never done any sequential art before. Any comics I’ve done are just one-panel deals. I’m starting to get the hang of it. And doing these short comics is definitely helping.
I know you are a big fan of comics and graphic novels. Do you have any ambitions to do a full-length comic?
It’s definitely on my list of things to do, but right now I want to try illustrating other people’s stories. I would really love to do comic book covers more than anything because that’s more in line with the posters/shirt designs I do for bands right now.
Who’s your favorite superhero?
Batman will always be my favorite and Spider-Man is a close second. After watching 96 episodes of the “Justice League” cartoon over the course of three weeks this summer, I found the Question and the Atom to be really fascinating. There’s a whole world of B/C/D List comic book superheroes that never get stories written because they are perceived as poor sellers, which is a shame.
If you could have a superpower,
what would it be?
Lately, I’ve been wishing I could pause time so I could get more accomplished. But I think flying and invulnerability would be good too.
To steal a horribly dark question from Tyler Deeb: “What would you do if you lost your hands?”
If I lost my hands, I’d be in a tight spot. My outlets are drawing and playing drums, so I would have to find new ways to do those things. I imagine I’d get some Chubbs Peterson-esque prosthetics and move on with my life.
How’s a ferret as a pet compared to other types of pets?
Ferrets are playful like dogs, but litter trained like cats. It’s a common misconception that they smell bad, but pretty much every ferret has their stink glands removed when they are young.
